Iconiza presents its Favicon and Webclip design service. Its created to enhance your websites image as a whole, by adding this usually forgotten element of design.
Now that the iPhone™ is becoming more popular as an Internet browsing device, it is a good idea to include a Favicon (Webclip) for it too.
What is a Favicon?
"A favicon (short for 'favorites icon'), also known as a website icon, page icon or urlicon, is an icon associated with a particular website or webpage. A web designer can create such icons in several ways and many recent web browsers can then make use of them.
Browsers that support them may display them in the browser's URL bar, next to the site's name in lists of bookmarks, and next to the page's title in a tabbed document interface." - Wikipedia
What is an iPhone™ Webclip?
"iPhone™ Web Clip - An iPhone™ Web Clip is a shortcut to a specific website or web page that can be created in the iPhone™ web browser and stored on the iPhone™'s home screen.
When a user taps the web clip on the iPhone™'s home screen, the iPhone's™ web browser automatically launches and takes the user to that website. Web clips are available in iPhone™ software 1.1.3 and above." - About.com
Do I need them?
You should have them both as part of your website graphical elements. It will give you a more professional look as every visitor can see that you care about your website's image by incorporating them.
Why do I have to pay for a Favicon if I can just resize my logo to those sizes? Well you could, but that's not necessarily the best option, since an icon of that size (16x16px or 57x57px) just can't display many of the features like a bigger image, like shadowing, effects, anti-aliasing (in some cases).
How to include them in my website or iPhone™
It's very simple.
FAVICON: The easiest way to make a Favicon work with browsers, is to save the Favicon in the root folder of your website (Not the root of the server, the root of the web documents). After reloading your site it will show the Favicon on the browser window.
You can also specify a location for the Favicon, in case you save it in another directory by including the following code to the <head> tag of your html:
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="http://yoursite.com/folder/favicon.ico" />
WEBCLIP: As with the Favicon, save the PNG Webclip in the root folder of your website (Not the root of the server, the root of the web documents).
The file should be called "apple-touch-icon.png" - (We deliver it that way).
You also can specify a custom URL for the Webclip by including the following line in the head of the document:
<link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="http://yoursite.com/webclip.png"/>
